Stupid sport!

Today I am upset! very very upset, Australia lost the ashes.
The Poms stick royally!
For the people out there that do not know what I am talking about it is a sport called cricket and for the last few games (tests) the Aussies have won the ashes. I guess you still do not know what I am talking about so let me break it down for you.

Pom(s)-an alternative word for the British, used by speakers of Australian English, New Zealand English, South African English and Afrikaans

Cricket - a bat and ball team sport that is first documented as being played in southern England in the 16th century. By the end of the 18th century, cricket had developed to the point where it had become the national sport of England.

The Ashes- a Test cricket series played between England and Australia. It is one of international cricket's most celebrated rivalries and dates back to 1882. It is currently played biennially, alternately in Australia and England.

End conclusion, England stinks!

First if you add up all the occasions that Australia has won the Ashes compared to losing it to Brits, Australia is miles in front. Most likely it's a case of most Aussies being insufferable bad sports because your so used to winning everything.

My advice is eat your dose of humble pie, build a bridge and get over it!

Second - Pom isn't alternative word for British, it's a derogatory term used by xenophobic Aussies, Kiwi's and South Africans.
It's the equivalent of being called an Antipode or a Colonial which is the term most Londoners use for Arrogant Aussies who swagger in thinking they own the world and can piss on everyone else.

All up what it really says is that your a Whinging Antipode!

Oh gosh you comment made me laugh, someone shove something dead up your arse "anonymous" oh if you disagree with things such as what "poms" are go complain to wikipedia as the terms were taken from there

Sounds like your more familiar with the experience! So maybe I'll just leave the whole dead and arse thing to you.

As for Wikipedia "Poms" appears under list of ethnic slurs

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_slurs

Just like "Curry Muchers" does

So the next time Australia loses to India in Cricket maybe you can say something like "India Stinks, just like the food they eat...and then quote "Curry Munchers as stated in Wikipedia..."

I'll make sure I'll forward your post on to every Indian I know and see what they think about your comments...what do you think Antipode? Sound like fun

Hello "Anonymous",

I am terribly sorry, but I have to correct you, since 'pom' is indeed another word (or term) for an English person/immigrant (not for British which you quoted wrongly). Wikipedia is a fantastic media, but why not have a look in the Cambridge dictionary? We're talking English here after all, aren't we?

http://dictionary.cambridge.org/define.asp?key=61399&dict=CALD

I admit it is an informal and a bit of disrespectful word, but very common and widely used used in the media. Especially if it regards cricket if I have to believe YOUR link on Wikipedia[...] But also jokingly in person. And no, I have not seen them start a fight yet!

It may well be that you don't know how other people react to this all, but at least you showed very clearly that you were offended by this post. I could call you a 'troll' for your reaction, but I think that would be incorrect. Because I think you didn't start this 'flame' intentionally. I think you are just someone who had the need to react on this post because you took it way to personal!

But cricket is a sport with a very old tradition (no need explain I think, but still). The Ashes, "poms" and "Aussies" and a LOT of swearing from both sides (only behind the TV or in the pub of course!) is all part of it. So if you can't take that, maybe this blog is not such a good place. An Aussie and no swearing is like cricket without a bat!

And no need to bring up the "Curry Munchers" (why the heck did you bring that up anyway? Something personal again maybe?) Or are you just too eager to "forward the post to all Indian you know". So you think this is all a racist thing? And "sounds like fun"? Well, it seems to you, since you are having a wonderful time writing here again! You kind of made your point in the first post, too bad you changed it to a useless comment now, since you were on a roll.

But if you do feel offended by her post, you just got sucked into an emotional post about her favourite (?) sport. I think it is very much appreciated that you found the time to react on it (was good reading too) Too bad the second reaction looked more like a childish reaction then a serious one. And if I may give you one hint for next time: Don't try to show off and use Wikipedia as your all-mighty source, like a lot of people seem to do. Didn't you know Steven Seagal died for about a day this week? Only on Wikipedia!

Cheers!

PS: It's not the Aussies that "own the world and can piss on everyone else", that the Yanks ;-)
